Sprint and Caballero
The GMC Caballero is coupe utility built by the GMC division of General Motors for the 1978-1987 model years, and sold by GMC Truck dealers mainly in the United States and Canada. From 1971-1977 the car-based pickup was the GMC Sprint, but renamed Caballero for 1978. The Sprint/Caballero is GMC's version of the Chevrolet El Camino. Only emblems, hub caps and trim designations differ from the Chevrolet. The GM A platform was downsized for 1978 but the Caballero and its El Camino twin used the Chevrolet Malibu station wagon's longer-wheelbase chassis. In 1982, the rear-wheel-drive vehicle became known as the G platform as the A platform switched to front-wheel drive.
